Our Clinical Pharmacoepidemiologists, dr Alfi Yasmina, M.Sc, Ph.D, had the honor of delivering a guest lecture at ITS Statistics Surabaya for the "Introduction to Biostatistics and Epidemiology" course. This lecture was specifically designed to empower students with non-medical backgrounds. The response from the students was incredible and confirms the urgent need for this interdisciplinary approach.

We are committed to fostering an environment where statisticians are equipped to tackle the complexity of modern genetic and biomarker data, and where medical researchers leverage robust statistical methodologies.

We were invited as speakers at a seminar organized by the Faculty of Biology at Gadjah Mada University on July 19, 2025. We shared updates on our study integrating individual genomic datasets to discover biomarkers for cervical pre-cancer, presented by Innas Widiasti, M.Biomed, our Bioinformatician. Her excellent delivery led to fruitful discussions, generating thought-provoking questions and valuable feedback from the audience. The seminar also provided an opportunity to connect with and learn from distinguished researchers, academics, and clinical practitioners about their latest research developments.

It has been reported that HPV screening coverage among Indonesian women is very low, leading to advanced diagnosis of cervical cancer. As part of our series of events and studies on HPV and cervical pre-cancer, we conducted a webinar to educate the public and healthcare workers about the importance of HPV screening. During the session, we also shared the disease progression of cervical cancer so participants could better understand the critical importance of early screening.

One of our team members had the privilege of attending a conference organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, at Bali Nusa Dua Conference Center (3-5 October 2024). The event provided a valuable opportunity to explore potential research collaborations and gain insights from leading experts in the field. We extend our gratitude to Yayasan Satriabudi Dharma Setia for sponsoring this meaningful experience.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health recognizes the vast potential in integrating genomics with other omics fields such as proteomics and metabolomics to provide a comprehensive understanding of diseases and advance personalized health management. As part of this vision, the Biomedical and Genomic Science Initiatives (BGSi), launched in 2022, aims to recruit 100,000 participants by 2029, contributing to Indonesia's growing genomic agenda. BGSi has invested in data systems to facilitate data sharing for collaborative research, with plans to build a facility capable of sequencing and storing specimens for 400,000 participants. In 2023, the Ministry introduced significant reforms to enhance clinical research, establishing the Indonesia Clinical Research Center (INA-CRC ) under the MOH's BB Binomika, which serves as the national hub for supporting researchers and managing the clinical research registry. Significant progress has already been made through the BGSi initiative, including the establishment of a biobank network, a high-throughput sequencing facility, and Indonesia's genomics database, paving the way for increased collaboration among stakeholders.

On September 12, 2024, under the theme "Future Directions in Genomics" BGSi marked its two-years milestone by hosting an inspiring event aimed at (i) recognizing the progress made so far, (ii) learning from the experiences of other countries in implementing their genomics programs, and (iii) encouraging active participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers and industry leaders.

One of our team members was luckly enough to be sponsored by Genepica (our research partner) to follow 5-days-workshop, named: "International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection Summer School 2023".

The workshop highlighted the importance of early cancer detection and explored biomarker development, validation, and risk prediction. Experts emphasized collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches, discussed evaluation frameworks, and presented case studies on cancer detection using biomarkers and machine learning. The session provided insights into advancements in early cancer detection and promising strategies for identifying cancer in its early stages. With a focus on biomarker development and risk prediction, the research community aims to improve methods for early cancer detection, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.

We are excited to highlight the outstanding contribution of our team member, Dewi Amaliah, who recently conducted an engaging course titled "Empowering Medical Insight through an Interactive R Shiny" for 100 students from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember via Zoom. This 2-hour session combined thorough material presentations and practical, hands-on experience with R software and Shiny, underscoring our dedication to knowledge sharing and industry collaboration. We take great pride in Dewi's commitment and expertise, which continue to inspire and empower the next generation of professionals.
